The opportunity:

An industry leading life and pensions company has a fantastic opportunity for a Senior Claims Assessor (Health) to join their team. Working remotely, you will have some claims experience already and will be coached through processes and procedures in order to be fully competent at dealing with all types of health claims such as income protection, critical illness and life insurance.

Must be able to show good analytical skills, customer service skills and empathy towards contacts and customers alike. The confidence to correspond with medical professionals and review sensitive medical data along with the willingness to learn all aspects of health claims for life and pensions products, is essential for this position.

Essential Knowledge & Experience

  • 5 years experience working in Life Insurance business
  • Knowledge of Life and Pensions legislation
  • 5 Years handling & processing claims including life insurance, critical illness and income protection
  • Experienced in dealing with large sum cash pay outs when terms and conditions of policy are met.
  • Must have experience with gathering medical evidence from GP's and dealing with coroner's reports
  • At least 3 years experience in mentoring and coaching junior assessors
  • Minimum of two years experience with investigation and escalation of claims
  • Desirable is experience in internal complaints and financial ombudsmen

Key Responsibilities

  • Dealing with health claims mainly to do with Critical Illness, Income Protection and lump sum Life Insurance
  • Carrying out routine processes in line with documented procedures
  • Obtain appropriate approvals where required within the process (in line with risk framework)
  • Escalate risks and issues to line management in a timely manner
  • Work collaboratively within own team to meet team targets and priorities
  • Actively participate in team meetings
  • Actively seek feedback to aid personal development and reduce failure demand
  • Responsible to call out issues to line management
  • Carry out manual calculations in accordance with the current governance framework and in line with expected accuracy and productivity measures
  • Coach and mentor junior assessors in accordance with company policies
